IMRA – Integrated flood risk management to improve risk perception and public participation

The processing steps of the project are described in two areas "Morsbach" and "Leichlingen" in the Wupper basin. The following steps are performed:  

1. Step: Inventory of existing data to determine the actual flood risk, based on a scientific risk analysis - assessment and analysis of the responsibilities and powers in the political-administrative system.
2. Step: Polls for the performance and handling of the flood risk in the case study areas and Morsbach Leichlingen. These surveys are conducted at the beginning, middle and end of the project, making statements to the effectivity of the Projects.
3. Step: Evaluation of the existing flood risk management of the responsible actors on the basis of the above mentioned risk-governance principles. The evaluation is carried out twice to test how mach acts to gain confidence have contributed to public decision making.
4. Step: During the project two regional workshops are conducted, on communication and on knowledge exchange / transfer in order to serve the participants. In the first workshop relevant actors of the flood risk will discuss, the results of the survey and the survey on risk perception and then will assess the implementation quality of flood risk management. In the second workshop, the actual risk management and communication strategy will be focused on.
5. Step: The communication strategy aims to improve the transfer of knowledge between experts and various stakeholders in flood risk management process (such as science, policy, technical bodies) and between experts and the public (local population).
